We believe that the perfect map your body needs to heal is already in your brain and nervous system. When your body is injured those perfect messages may become disrupted. The disruption of those messages is called a subluxation. Subluxations prevent your brain from communicating properly with your body and leads to pain and other symptoms. Now that the pressure is off of the nerves our focus shifts to keeping the pressure off of the nerves. We utilize neuromuscular rehabilitation to accomplish this. After a chiropractic adjustment your brain becomes much more strongly connected to your body but as you return to your life and your habitual patterns, poor posture, work stress and many other aspects of your environment put pressure on the subluxations to return. Our neuromuscular reeducation system utilizes in office and at home scientifically designed posture correction and spinal strengthening exercises specifically designed to use time and repetition to train your body to Keep the pressure off of the nerves. This allows many of our practice members to experience extraordinary results, often in difficult situations, in a much shorter time span than in other offices. We all have procrastinated when it comes to fixing a problem and we understand what the cost can be. When it is your health however, it is totally different. YOU ONLY GET ONE BODY. And often you only get one chance to maintain your health. Many people will procrastinate and make the big decisions about their health only after a loss. They are in the hospital or urgent care and in a situation where now they are making decisions out of fear or anger and making decisions out of fear and anger never leads to a good place. So, when is the best time to start getting healthy? We all know the answer to that question is right now. As we get older health problems always worsen over time. What we know about injuries is that they have a cumulative effect. They add to each other over time and if they are never corrected will build up and up until they reach a crisis. It’s always easier to fix a problem earlier on before it reaches a crisis.
Many people will use medications for health problems that sometimes work so WELL that they never correct the CAUSE of the problem, and over time, if never corrected, those problems will worsen until they reach a crisis. Once your health is lost there is a chance you may never get it back. Often when we are unhealthy, we will reduce or stop exercising. If we don’t exercise for too long, we lose muscle mass. Loss of muscle mass is the number one bioindicator of aging. So, it becomes critical to get you back moving. Your health depends primarily on keeping the brain active and stimulated. 90% of the stimulation to your brain comes from a part of your brain called the cerebellum. The cerebellum is stimulated by movement and more specifically, balance and coordination. Lack of movement and exercise can lead to brain atrophy, dementia and Alzheimer’s. Since your brain controls every single cell, tissue, and organ of your body, decreased movement will ultimately effect the health of your entire body. Because the bones and tissues around the spine are so heavily enervated, movement of the spine has the strongest stimulation to the brain than any other joint. So, keeping the spine moving is a key ingredient to any decent plan to maintain your health.
One of the things we feel it is important to maintain and strengthen in your body is your balance which is really your posture. Esthetically, we would always like to look great in our glory years and not have that nursing home posture. However, your posture is how your body protects your spine and central nervous system. So, we have to improve or maintain your balance as you age to protect your brain. Also, falls and broken hips are the number one reason you may end up in a nursing home. So, the best time to start working on your balance is today.
We like to say, “Death is too easy”. We know people who smoke cigarettes every day and when you ask them why they do it knowing how unhealthy it is. They say, “I’m going to die anyway”. But what does that look like? Often it is cancer or diabetes. Gangrene, amputations, multiple doctor and hospital visits, pain, dependence on your family, setting a terrible example for the next generation and really a massive burden to our whole society.
